Death Benefits for Pastors

The General Conference directs that there shall be Death Benefits for pastors who receive an appointment from the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

Eligibility
A “Pastor in Charge,” as defined above under eligibility designations for Pastor in Charge, Pastor in Charge on Special Assignment, Presiding Elders and General Officers, is eligible to receive Death Benefits.

In order to become enrolled in the A.M.E. Zion Church Group Life Insurance program, all active and retired pastors must have completed a Census Data & Beneficiary Designation Form (CDBD) and submitted same to the Executive Director of Zion Benefits Services, Inc.  Upon receipt of the form and determination of eligibility is established, the Executive Director will instruct the insurance carrier to enroll and insure the pastor.  Absent a completed CDBD form on file in the office of Zion Benefits Services, Inc., pastors will not be insured for Death Benefits.

Death Benefit Payments
Claims for Death Benefits shall be made to the Executive Director of Zion Benefits Services, Inc. by the deceased pastor’s designated beneficiary(ies).  Such claims will be submitted to the Life Insurance Company for processing and payments.

Age of Pastor at Date of Death        Lump Sum Death Benefit
69 and Under                                        $10,000.00
70 and Older                                         $3,000.00

Beneficiaries of all overseas pastors, who are eligible, will receive Death Benefits equivalent to $1,000.00 and $500.00 respectively, upon receipt of appropriate death certification.
