The General Conference of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church directs that there shall be established the department of Zion Benefits Services, Inc., in order to:

- Provide retirement benefits and self-managed retirement plans for the Pastors of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
- Provide death benefits for the Pastors of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
- Provide relief for living spouses of deceased Pastors of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
- Provide Risk Management and Commercial Insurance procurement services that protect the churches of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, its affiliated schools and institutions, against property and casualty losses
